Avast monitors your browsing and social networking apps to detect and scan for any harmful elements. It scores well in testing independent security software labs. When this Antivirus is installed on your system some 3rd party clients like Mozilla Thunderbird, SeaMonkey or The Bat!, may display that the mail server certificate is invalid when you communicate via emails. This applies to products like Avast (Premiers, Internet Security, Pro Antivirus, and Free Antivirus). An advanced scanning process is used in antivirus by Mail Shield for communicating over SSL/TLS. The 3rd party e-mail clients possess their own certificate stores and may need extra configuration to avoid warnings of invalid mail server certificates.

Avast Support helps you to stop warnings about invalid server certificates, export the Mail Shield certificate and import it into your e-mail client’s certificate store. Learn to export using the following steps and resolve warnings.

  • Go to Avast User Interface and select Settings.
  • Click Components and hit the Customize button beside Mail Shield.
  • From the left panel click SSL scanning and tick the box beside Scan SSL connection.
  • Click Export certificate.
  • To save the exported Shield certificate (like your Windows Desktop) choose a location and hit the Save.
  • In the Avast Information dialog hit the OK button.
  • Now import the Mai Shield certificate into your mail client.

IMPORTANT: Each e-mail account needs to be set up in your mail client as required by your mail provider. Now for instructions, refer to your mail client’s and mail provider’s documentation.
